Elaine Khosrova
Outreach and Relations Director
Elaine Khosrova joined The Nature Institute in October, 2019. She holds a Bachelors degree in Food Science and Nutrition and has spent much of her career in food publishing, working as an editor and independent writer. The author of Butter: A Rich History (Algonquin Books, 2016), Elaine received the 2017 MFK Fisher award for Narrative Food Writing as well as a 2007 Gold Folio award in journalism. A former New York City pastry chef and fellowship student at the Culinary Institute of America, Elaine began her career in food journalism as a test kitchen editor at Country Living magazine, followed by staff positions at Healthy Living, Classic American Home, and as senior editor at Santé Magazine. In 2008 she became the founding editor of Culture, a national magazine about artisanal cheese making and dairy farming. She has contributed to numerous national food and lifestyle publications, including the Oxford Companion to Cheese.
Elaine and her husband have lived in the Hudson Valley for more than 20 years, having moved from NYC to enroll their two children at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School. An avid camper, hiker, cyclist, and traveler, Elaine brings a life-long appreciation of the outdoors to her work at the institute. She writes, “The natural world has always been an endless source of wonder — and comfort — to me. Working with Craig, Henrike, and Steve has only deepened my connection to what’s alive all around me. It’s gratifying to be a part of their unique mission to engage people in contemplative science. Their work also makes me hopeful; it just may be that cultivating appreciation can protect nature better than legislation.”
