John Gouldthorpe

Educator and Audio Productions

John was immersed in the work of archetypal psychology for more than 20 years. In 1989, through the suggestion of James Hillman, he studied with Gordon Tappan at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California, and then stayed on for several years to teach the graduate seminar in Archetypal Psychology. In 2008 he discovered the work of Rudolf Steiner and Goethe’s scientific studies. Ever since he's been immersed in their writings along with their contemporary exponents. The continual thread in his interests is the relationship between perception, conception, imagination, and identity.

For many years John was a deep-tissue massage therapist working with a clientele of psychologists influenced by Stanly Keleman. For a brief period he was a clinical psychologist and then moved on to working on the issue of understanding economic globalization and its structural antidote: localized economies. Living in West Marin, north of San Francisco, since 1994, he worked for eight years helping to start KWMR radio station. For several years he was chairman of West Marin Commons, and spent two years as president of the Point Reyes Village Association.
