Special Event

A Painter's Search for Meaning in Nature
Benefit Event for The Nature Institute

Saturday, March 12 at 7:30 pm.
North Pointe Cultural Arts Center, Rte 9, Kinderhook, NY

As a landscape painter, Thomas Locker has spent decades studying nature and bringing her to expression in his paintings and children's books. In his talk, Thomas will speak about his ongoing search for meaning in nature. It's a search to the mountaintop, but also a search in the seven directions of the Native Americans. He will show eight new paintings—displayed for the first time—of his beloved Catskill Mountains.

The talk will be followed by a panel discussion on "Finding Nature's Meaning Through Art, Science and Religion." Panel discussion participants will be:

  • Christina Root (Moderator), Professor of English, St. Michael's College, Burlington, VT
  • Thomas Locker, painter and author of award-winning children's books
  • Craig Holdrege, biologist, author, and director of The Nature Institute, Ghent, NY
  • Rev. Mark H. Diebel, Rector, St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Stockport, NY

This should be a stimulating evening for all art and nature lovers and admirers of Thomas Locker's work. There will be refreshments, book signing, and the opportunity to see other works by Thomas Locker on exhibit at North Pointe. This event will help raise funds for the non-profit work of The Nature Institute, which is committed to helping people find new and deeper meaning in nature.
